Decorating Ideas and How-To's

Miss Bobbie's Mini-Blog

May 16 -- On June 6, 2012, "Kingdom Servants" as you know it will close. The entire Kingdom Servants Web site will cease to exist.

If you would like to have the fabric aviation banners and my leftover page-a-day pictures, send me an e-mail. I ask $5 to cover a padded envelope and postage. If you're in or near Wilmington, North Carolina, or willing to drive here, I'll give you the banners, the leftover page-a-day pictures, the picture collage, and a few bulkier items for the price of a smile.

Julia Hornet Don't Forget the Girls!!

Most of us probably think that planes are primarily an interest of men and boys. Not so!

With very little help from Grandpa, my granddaughter built this F-18 Hornet with the markings of a Blue Angel.

What Day Is It?

Cheap, quick decorating can be had with the use of calenders! At this point in time (late January) they can still be had at bookstores, drugstores, and probably a half dozen other places. The page-a-day type yields almost more airplane pictures than you can use. Here's a collage on poster board, and I still have plenty of plane images to spare.

bomberjacket silk aviator scarf goggles Costumes

These are the basics for our theme, not necessarily to wear, but to display. A bomber jacket could be of great interest to children and keep history in perspective. Check surplus stores for goggles, and any seamstress can make long scarves. Any chance you could borrow a mannequin?

Meanwhile, here's an amusing and informative page about Aviator Scarves.

fabric banner Time to Sew!

After making an airplane-theme pillowcase for my granddaughter, I had enough scrap for two small banners. I found the 45"-wide fabric at WalMart for about $3.50 per yard.

North Carolina license plate North Carolina Special!

This license plate is ready to be enlarged onto posterboard and customized with your message.
Advertise your presentation dates, or add scripture or the motto.

common balsa kit plane Toy Planes

Putting together one of these 10-cent balsa planes (far left) was part of my childhood. You can still find them in hobby stores for $1.00 or less, in the same familiar packaging.

If your local library has a copy of "Fabulous Paper Gliders," the author encourages you to photocopy any of the pages to make your own gliders, like the one shown here.

Wright Brothers Charles Lindbergh Mitsuo Fuchida Jimmy Stewart Famous Flyers

No doubt about it -- In 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright changed the world with flight! Truly a revolutionary, Charles Lindbergh, the original air mail pilot, was the first man to fly nonstop from New York to Paris in his aircraft, "The Spirit of St. Louis," in 1927. Mitsuo Fuchida led the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and later became a Christian missionary. Actor Jimmy Stewart, who portrayed Lindbergh in the 1957 film "The Spirit of St. Louis," was himself an Air Force bomber pilot in World War 2, and rose to the rank of Brigadier General in 1959.

Lindbergh's Instrument panel Instrument Flight Rules

This is the instrument panel used by Lindbergh for his famous flight to Paris -- relying only on this to get him there. I'm certain that my very clever readers can reproduce this panel using foam core covered with black posterboard. Cut and apply while rings and little arrows for the gauges and dials.

Airplane Hangar Rotation ~ Worship Rally Hangar

The hangar is usually a closed metal structure to protect aircraft from weather and ultraviolet light.
It also serves as a convenient maintenance and supply storage area.

Victoria Falls waterfall prop Rotation ~ Bible Study at Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders, and note that the 'i' is silent) is a waterfall located in southern Africa on the Zambezi River, between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The falls are the largest in the world.

Make yours with cardboard; some jagged cutting will suggest rocks. Use fabric to mimic the water. White sheer curtain material placed over shimmery blue fabric should suggest movement and mist. See what the local fabric store might have on clearance and check yard sales!

Prop up your waterfall against a ladder behind your cardboard rocks.

Northern Lights Rotation ~ Missions Under the Northern Lights

How many years back did we do "Arctic Edge"? My only ideas for these lights are shimmery multi-color fabrics with a gentle fan behind them, suggestion motion, or some fabulous use of paint.
